How Many Calories In Watermelon

Watermelons have been in existence for thousands of years and they are a popular fruit that enjoyed by many; the watermelon originates from Africa but is now mainly grown in China. There are very few Calories in watermelon yet the nutritional value of the melon is excellent.

Watermelon calorie count:
100 grams - 30 calories
10 watermelon balls (122 g) - 37 calories
1 cup, diced (152 g) - 46 calories
1 cup, balls (154 g) - 47 calories
1 NLEA serving (280 g) - 85 calories
1 wedge (approx 1/16 of melon) (286 g) - 87 calories
1 melon (15 inches long x 7-1/2" diameter) (4518 g) - 1,371 calories

The low calorific content is maybe one of the most attractive things about the watermelon, one cupful contains around forty eight calories and the melon has next to no fat content. An adult should consume around two thousand calories a day so eating a serving of the delicious juicy melon will add very little to your recommended daily allowance. The melon is rich in vitamins A, C and B6 and it contains plenty of potassium and magnesium.

Some people like to eat watermelon straight from the rind whilst others prefer to blend it into a fruit smoothie, ripe melons are refreshing and the soft fleshy fruit tastes good however you choose to eat it. Many people who are trying to lose a little weight may enjoy this particular fruit because there are so few calories in watermelon, if you are on a diet and you feel like a snack then you can always enjoy a thick slice of the sweet melon.

The watermelon is often referred to as the wonder fruit because it is rich in antioxidants which aid numerous diseases such as asthma, diabetes, arthritis, heart disease and strokes, so the melon is not only very low in calories it has many health benefits too. The watermelon contains lycopene an antioxidant that is thought to aid the prevention of many cancers including stomach cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer and cervical cancer.

Look online and you will find lots of delicious recipes that contain watermelon, the fruit can be used in salads and it tastes particularly good in a goats cheese salad but melon also compliments fish dishes. Remember there are very few calories in watermelon, however if you incorporate the fruit into a recipe then the other ingredients may be laden with calories. Soak some chunks of watermelon in vodka and they taste scrumptious but each piece will calorie laden. There are few Calories in watermelon and it may be filled with nutrients but the fruit does contain natural sugar so it should still be eaten in moderation.
